The US Congress required that the US executive branch develop a plan to research methods of cooling the planet with Solar Radiation Management (SRM). The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy has published its research plan along with this announcement.

The plan does not include research on surface interventions such as Cool Roofs and Roads, Salty Shore Brightening, or Reflective Water Covers. It covers only Marine Cloud Brightening by injecting tiny salt particles about 1 km high over oceans and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection. The plan does not propose a means for funding the research.
